Description

Panther medium tanks were produced in the years 1942-1945 at the MAN Daimler Benz plants. Data: length 8.86 m, width 3.43 m, height 3.1 m, total weight 44.8 tons, track traction. Drive: a 700 HP twelve-cylinder V gasoline engine, road speed 46 km / h. A crew of five soldiers. Basic armament: 76 mm cannon, two 7.92 mm machine guns. Armor from 110 to 45 mm. The 5992 Panther was produced in three years. Based on the experience of the crews, these tanks were constantly modernized.

The Panther was a response to the T-34 and was intended to replace the Panzerkampfwagen IV. The Panthers made their debut in the Battle of Kursk, but without success due to drive failures. In this battle, the Germans lost 150 of the 200 Panthers used. These tanks turned out to be vulnerable to armor-piercing fire from the flank. The Allies took advantage of this fact by attacking outnumbered from the side. These tanks were constantly modernized. The most perfect version was the G version. They took part in battles on all fronts. During the Warsaw Uprising, the insurgents captured two Panthers and used them to fight the Germans.

After the end of the war, 50 Panther tanks served in the French Army, one of which went to Indochina. Panthers are exhibited in tank museums in many countries of the world.
