Opta's yacht (named after the word optimist) with a displacement of 5 tons of the Sea Horse class was built in 1966 especially for the sailor Leonid Teliga, who was the first Pole to circumnavigate the globe. Teliga had a biography that he could share with several others: he graduated from an officer school, was a fisherman on a cutter, an infantry officer of the W.P., an RAF airman during the war, a government official, a deep-sea fisherman, a member of the UN commission in Korea and Laos, a correspondent of the PAP in Rome. The yacht itself is less than 10 m long, with two masts (yol sails with an area of ​​60 m²). He gathered funds for the construction of the yacht with the help of people of good will. “Społem” and “Las” cooperatives provided food supplies. The Navy provided a set of drugs. The yacht was transported (together with a sailor) by M / S Słupsk to Casablanca in Morocco. Here, on January 25, 1967, a cruise around the world began. Via Las Palmas, Barbados, Panama Canal, Pacific, Galapagos, Marquesas, Tahiti, Fiji, Torres Strait, Cape Needles, Dakar back to Casablanca. It took him over two years. Sometimes he met a Polish merchant ship at sea. During such a meeting, the captain asked if he had any health problems, as they had a doctor on board who could help him. Teliga replied that he did. –What is wrong with you? the captain asked. Teliga replied: I have a problem with my eyes, I cannot look at the canned food. Of course, Mr. Leonid was treated to a decent dinner. In fact, he had health problems. He developed cancer. He had to interrupt the cruise for a short time. After treatment, he returned to the yacht and completed the cruise. Leonid Teliga died the following year after completing the voyage. The yacht itself is restored to its original appearance in the Complex Yacht workshop in Puck and will be an exhibit in Tczew at the Wreck Conservation Center.
