Description

The three-masted frigate USS Constitution entered service in 1798. The crew consisted of 450 officers and sailors. Weapons include 30 24 lb. guns and 20 32 lb. caronads. The Karonada is a large caliber short-barreled ship gun used on merchant ships for defense against pirates and warships. They were used from the second half of the 18th century to the first half of the 19th century. They were characterized by a short range (up to 300 m) and high firepower. The peculiarity is that the USS Constitution is the oldest warship in the world still in service. The creation of this and five other frigates was preceded by the adoption of the Maritime Act by US Congress in 1794. The frigate's first mission as a flagship was participation in 1803 in the so-called "Barbara War" - this is the war against pirates sent by the Berber states and the protection of American merchant ships in the Mediterranean Sea. After the renovation in Boston, the USS Constitution took part in the war with Great Britain in 1812. It won the victory over the British frigate HMS Guerriere. She showed so much resistance during intense mutual fire that the sailors nicknamed the frigate "old Ironside." In the 1840s, she circumnavigated the globe. During the Civil War, the frigate was a training ship, in 1878 she participated in the World Exhibition in Paris, in It took over the function of a museum in 1907. In the years 1931-1934, she sailed around 90 ports in the USA. After renovation in 1997, she went to sea under full sail, celebrating her 200th birthday. It is moored in Boston.
