This Viking boat was found in the Norwegian town of Oseberg in 1903. The wreckage rested on a base of blue clay and was covered with turf and stones. The Oseberg boat was built in the last half of the 9th century and was buried about 50 years later. The ship is 50 to 100 years older than similar Viking boats found today. The deep immersion combined with the sail propulsion made the boat relatively dangerous.
