Description

The USS Constitution is the legendary American frigate and is the longest-serving ship in the world in active service. The name was given by President Washington after the adoption of the US constitution. After the outbreak of the war between Great Britain and the United States in 1812, the sailing ship was attacked by the frigate HMS "Guerriere". There was a naval battle, as a result of which "Constitution" severely damaged the British ship. After this battle, due to the exceptional resistance of the hull to British fire, the ship was nicknamed "Old Ironsides". The ship gained unprecedented resistance thanks to the use of a special type of wood, which was Virginia oak, which is much harder than ordinary oak.
