Description
The schooner Belle Poule (French for "Beautiful Hen") is a sailing training ship of the French Navy. Belle Poule and her sister ship, Etoile (French for "Star"), were launched at the Féchamp shipyard in Normandy on February 8, 1932. Belle Poule is 37.5 meters long and displaces 225 tons. The ship can sail at speeds of up to 12.5 knots under wind power and up to 9 knots under diesel power.
During World War II, both ships formed part of the Free French Forces fleet. To commemorate this, both schooners are still entitled to fly the Free French flag.
