Data sheet
The Koga was a typical Hanseatic merchant ship, ie the merchant association of German cities. A sailing ship was often found in the Baltic in the second half of the Middle Ages. From the few surviving wrecks of this type, it is known that they had defensive elements in the form of a bow and stern castles with battlements. Like every ship of that period, it was mainly made of oak. A characteristic feature of the structure was the overlapping sheathing and a single rectangular sail suspended on a horizontal area. The transverse beams, the pivots of which are visible on the sides, are also noteworthy. Later versions of the ship had a stern rudder that could be moved with a tiller. The length of the large log was about 30 meters and the load capacity was 300 tons.
The flags on the model indicate belonging to the city of Elbląg.
